We asked our team of rope experts to share their favourite products from 2021. These included newly introduced products, updated products with new features and ones that continue to prove to be our favourites.
Our staff favourite products from 2021...
We picked the Maestro for its ease of use and reliability in stressful incidents. We've had glowing reviews from customers on this product and they love how quickly it can be set up. It comes in 2 different sizes - 11mm and 13mm. This product is quickly becoming a go-to piece of equipment for rescuers.
This isn't a new product but it's one of our personal favourites. We like the fit and finish of this helmet and the way it sits a little lower on the head compared to other helmets. The screens on the vents make it a CSA approved vented helmet and a good choice for anyone working at height or over embankment and not wanting to overheat.
We chose this carabiner because it's such a nicely made product. It has a great finish, easy to open and has a solid feel in the hand. We like the inset high wear point made of stainless. It shows a lot of thought went into its R&D. The lock is easy to use and won't bind in mud and snow. At 60 grams you will barely notice it on your harness loops.
This headlamp is a favourite among our staff. We love that it’s USB rechargeable, super powerful (900 Lumens) and clips into your Vertex or Strato helmet (or any other helmet with a Pixadapt).
This is a premium rope at an affordable price. It handles beautifully and with the permanently woven connection between the sheath and core, there will never be sheath slippage.
An absolute workhorse, capable of carrying very heavy loads and keeping all your gear OCD-level organized.
The Skylotec Sirius was one of our most-requested descenders of 2021. With its 100% metal construction, ergonomic design and straight-down rope routing, it has been a hit with Canadian rope techs doing long drops day in and day out. In the new year, keep your eyes open for the new Spark descender which is based off the Sirius but without the anti-panic feature for uninterrupted descending.
Petzl's range of Absorbica lanyards and accessories remains just as popular as ever. We've been outfitting workers with pre-built and custom-assembled lanyards tailored to the work they'll be doing. Petzl's made it easy to choose lanyard length and material, hook type and size and they've given you the option of adding additional hardware like swivels or fixed rings. With the ABSORBICA range of products, it has never been easier to assemble a lanyard just the way you need it.
In 2021 Petzl re-worked their line of fall-protection harnesses with the new and re-designed NEWTON, NEWTON FAST and NEWTON EASYFIT models. It is now possible for workers to wear a premium fall-pro harness without paying a premium price. Features typically reserved for more expensive harnesses (comfort padding, quick connect buckles, gear pockets, etc.) have now made their way down to the NEWTON models. These were a big hit with the film and entertainment industry this year...it also probably helped that they come in black!
